Former SFACIM Faculty….

Chris Dixon
Chris Dixon

As one of the co-founders of the School for A Course in Miracles (formerly School of Reason). Christine co-mentored students in the school’s first Teacher Program, which concluded in June 2009.  Chris was first introduced to A Course in Miracles in 1986.  She read and studied it with a group for three years but only when she began studying Ken Wapnick’s material did she come to understand the Course’s metaphysics as non-dualistic, thereby coming to accept God as non-dualistic.  Chris has been an A Course in Miracles teacher at the Rocky Mountain Miracle Center (RMMC) since 1999 and is currently a faculty member of the School of Reason.  As a dedicated life student of the Course, she continues her learning through leading a discussion group intended to help students become comfortable with its non-dualistic metaphysics and the two thought systems it presents.  You can email Chris at kevlene@q.com.

 Susan Wiggins

Sue Wiggins heard about A Course in Miracles in 2010 and was continually intrigued by the quotes spoken from the book by various spiritual teachers that she listened to during a time of spiritual seeking in her life. It was in 2013 when she purchased a copy of the book for herself.  Sue started to read a few pages off and on from A Course in Miracles for about three years and found the words to be poetic, gentle, and also having a spiritual depth to them.  After these three years of only having a casual peek at A Course in Miracles, Sue decided to seek a further look into the book and started to read a portion of the text and a workbook lesson everyday.  She discovered the School for A Course in Miracles after desiring to be a part of a study group after spending eight months in a daily individual study on her own.  Sue was overjoyed to discover the offering of classes to help assist her in studying A Course in Miracles and took several classes, workshops, and Immersion classes.

Sue spent 25 years studying and teaching Christianity, and six years studying spiritual awakening through various teachers, as well as attending New Thought churches for a couple of years.  It was upon studying  A Course in Miracles that all of the previous studying came together and presented a spiritual path to Sue that spoke to her most completely and profoundly.

It is with great joy for Sue to share the Course’s message of the shift within us that is provided by forgiveness.  The inner shift that takes us from our ego identification to our true identity within the heart of God is an exciting practice that Sue loves to share with others.

Susan Dugan
Susan Dugan

Co-founder, graduate, and former SFACIM faculty member, Susan Dugan is a writer, student, and teacher of A Course in Miracles. Susan spent decades studying and pursuing a variety of spiritual paths before finding the Course and recognizing it as her way home. For Susan, the Course’s unique power lies in its practical application, particularly in our relationships. She teaches and writes to learn, receiving what she gives. Teaching and writing help her become more vigilant in practicing forgiveness; learning to smile at the ego’s antics while allowing the healing of our one mind and the dissolution of the dream of separate interests. She has written several books of personal essays about practicing forgiveness in daily life. These include Extraordinary Ordinary Forgiveness, Forgiveness Offers Everything I Want, and Forgiveness: The Key to Happiness.

On Resistance to The Course… By Ken & Gloria Wapnick

May 5, 2017

Foundation for A Course In Miracles

Lighthouse Newsletter: Volume 10   Number 2   June 1999

RESISTANCE

(To Doing The Course)

How One Studies A Course in Miracles Without Really Learning It,

by Gloria Wapnick
and Kenneth Wapnick, Ph.D.

Although the term resistance appears infrequently in A Course in Miracles, it is nonetheless a key concept in the process of students learning the mind-changing lessons of forgiveness that are the Course’s central teaching. Indeed, it is the only concept that can satisfactorily explain a phenomenon experienced by most (if not all) students of the Course at some point or another in their work with it. This is the seeming paradox, on the one hand, of consciously and most sincerely attempting to learn, live, and practice the Course principles under the guidance of Jesus or the Holy Spirit, while on the other hand, experiencing the ongoing frustration of not doing just that. Most spiritual seekers are familiar with the famous words of St. Paul, who exclaimed out of this same sense of frustration: “For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do” (Romans 7:19). This article explores the issue of resistance in Course students’ efforts to put into practice its principles of forgiveness as taught by their Inner Teacher, the Holy Spirit.

As with so many other areas that touch on the process of healing in A Course in Miracles, the work of Sigmund Freud offers us many parallels which underscore the importance of understanding the dynamics of the problem and its solution. Very early in his psychoanalytic work, Freud observed that his patients were not improving, despite the insights he was offering them as to the cause of their neurosis. It eventually dawned on him that the problem lay in the fact that the patients did not want to get better, a dynamic he termed resistance:

…the [therapeutic] situation led me at once to the theory that by means of my psychical  [i.e., psychological] work I had to overcome a psychical force in the patients which was opposed to the pathogenic ideas becoming conscious…. This work of overcoming resistances is the essential function of analytic treatment…. (Studies on Hysteria by Freud (with J. Breuer), 1893, Vol. II, p. 268; Introductory Lectures on Psychoanalysis, 1917, Vol. XVI, p. 451).(1)

Four Week RMMC Sunday Gathering Series (Starts 8/20) on “Song of Prayer” Pamphlet

April 26, 2017

The Song of Prayer Pamphlet,

Four Week Sunday Gathering Series

Starting Aug. 20th @ RMMC,

11am-noon:

Soon after the Course itself was originally published, this pamphlet was dictated by Jesus to help explain and correct the errors that Course students were already making. Many, if not most, students believed  forgiveness and prayer were about bodies and bodies’ behavior.

They had missed the major point that forgiveness was in the mind and took place at that level of experience. Whatever was happening at the level of form in the world was simply a reflection of what was already happening in the mind.  That experience in form and behavior then becomes a doorway back, with the Holy Spirit’s help, to the real issue in the mind (not the body’s brain), of seeming separation from our Father, our Source.

ACIM Workbook Lessons # 79-80 specifically point out this understanding of the Course’s forgiveness. Jesus repeats it there and throughout the entire ACIM… There is only one problem, the belief in separation in the mind. There is only one solution, the Atonement, or the letting go of the belief in separation. The Song of Prayer came along to reiterate and emphasize those same ideas in its three brief sections on Prayer, Forgiveness, and Healing. It describes what each are, and as importantly what they are not.

At the end of summer on four consecutive Sunday Gatherings, we will go over the Song of Prayer in its entirety and probe its wonderful insights and practical application of the Atonement principle in prayer, forgiveness and healing of the mind. Then we will see how that process is reflected in our daily experience in the world.

All are welcome, both beginning and ongoing students. The entire series is recommended for a comprehensive look at this amazing pamphlet, but each individual Sunday will have something insightful and helpful for all.

(A donation basket is passed at the end of each Sunday Gathering, and all proceeds go to the support and continuation of the Rocky Mountain Miracle Center as a place to study and share the blessings of A Course in Miracles.)

Series Schedule:

August 20… Lyn Corona: Introduction and Prayer

August 27… Rudi Florian: Forgiveness

Sep. 3… Tim Wise: Healing

Sep. 10… Whitney: Pamphlet Overview & Summary

The Song of Prayer pamphlet is included in most newer ACIM books under the heading “Supplements.” However if it’s not already there in your edition of the Course book, you can order an individual copy from facim.org ($6 plus shipping) or possibly purchase one from RMMC bookstore if available (thanks Maureen for ordering 10 extra copies). It is suggested that you get and bring your copy to each gathering in the series…
