Suggested Guidelines for Online Class Participation
Guidelines for
SFACIM Online Class Participation:
We are a School for A Course in Miracles (SFACIM), whose classes’ purpose is to present a coherent, consistent, and clear process of forgiveness based on Dr. Kenneth Wapnick’s teachings on Jesus’s A Course in Miracles (ACIM).
**Unlike most ACIM meetings and discussion groups, our SFACIM classes are different in that they are actual classes, and are not meant to be open forums for Course students and other Course teachers to give their own teachings and opinions about the Course, or other spiritual systems or other spiritual books.
Questions are definitely encouraged as in any classroom situation, and examples of students practicing forgiveness are often requested from the facilitators.
It is quite helpful at times to discuss and share what has, and hasn’t worked, for us in our own process of working and applying the Course, and specifically Ken Wapnick’s teachings on it.
To do that we first have to begin to learn what forgiveness and healing are in ACIM… as we study Ken Wapnick’s teachings on the Course.
During class, we try to avoid advice-giving (also called crosstalk in 12 step meetings)… directly to someone else or the group as a whole. Our personal challenge is for us to become aware and responsible for our own process of the ‘undoing’ of our own ego selfishness and preoccupation, and not to avoid that process in ourselves by sometimes trying to “help” or fix someone else.
-
We definitely discourage individuals consistently judging and attacking others and their shares at mtgs (including in some unusual cases verbal bullying and/or intimidation). Those specific issues will be addressed and dealt with appropriately in as kind but firm way as possible. Once addressed, if that inappropriate behavior continues, we will ask the person not to return to the mtgs. We are trying to create and maintain a safe environment for all of us in our sharing.
It is suggested and appreciated that all class participants take advantage of the opportunity to simply be students again, ask questions if so guided, and listen and learn and apply the Course teachings right there in class… no matter how many times they have heard or even taught the material themselves.
We are grateful for your patience and understanding.
Over-sharing in classes:
Although we definitely like and encourage our participants to share their questions and thoughts at our classes, please be mindful of over-sharing at the SFACIM classes. Some of us can get pretty chatty, and if we think we might be doing that, we probably are. Any more than 6 to 8 shares per class is most likely too much.
It is very helpful simply to listen and spend time in class actually practicing forgiveness, and maybe not talk so much, giving others a chance to say something.
———–
Focusing on our own forgiveness of others and ourselves…
Also please try in our shares to bring whatever we are discussing into a current framework of ACIM and its practice of forgiveness, whether it’s commenting on our past spiritual practices or anything else. In sharing about our past or current times where we feel like we may have failed God and/or ourselves, we try to eventually focus on how our forgiveness practice (by inviting Jesus’ or the Holy Spirit’s presence in our awareness) has helped us see past that guilt and shame, to who we truly are.
Any question about any of this please contact Tim and/or Lyn…. and most of all, thanks so much for your continued attendance and your willingness to participate in our classes and meetings.
Suggested more quiet time to actually integrate what we are talking about…
We would also recommend to our facilitators at least two full minutes of quiet time at the beginning and end of each class, and even sometimes in the middle of a class to help integrate quietly what is being discussed.
… best ask a participant to actually set a timer to remind the facilitator when at least two minutes of quiet have passed.
No eating during classes please…
If however you do need to eat during class because of time constraints, please turn off your video camera, while eating or moving around, so as not to be a distraction during class…. Thanks.

For Strongest and Most Consistent Signal during a Zoom session…
We recommend sitting as close to your router as possible, with your laptop or smart phone… This eliminates significantly a lot of the frozen screens and loss of audio during streaming.
Also, if you have the ‘5G’ option on network preferences on your computer, choose the 5G option over the regular option. (click here for tips on receiving stronger wifi signal)
And for strongest signal, hardwire your computer to your router for the best signal during the class.

Online Class Guidelines:

“Please Have Your Video Camera on During Class!”
Please have your video camera on during our 90 min. classes, and our free 75 min. sessions,
so we can see each others’ faces…
except for times when: 1) you are eating, or 2) you may need to move around during class, or 3) you may not be feeling well. .. thanks!
Video Tip:
*It helps to be aware of front lighting on your face instead of back lighting when on streaming… Otherwise your face will be silhouetted and cannot be seen on the screen.
The Two “ACIM” Supplements: ‘Psychotherapy’ and ‘Song of Prayer’… and ‘The Gifts of God Prose Poem’
The Two Pamphlets & The Prose Poem:

There were three other works from Jesus that Helen Schucman “scribed” after she finished taking down A Course in Miracles itself which was completed in 1972. They were called Psychotherapy Pamphlet, the Song of Prayer Pamphlet, and the Gifts of God Prose Poem.
(1) Psychotherapy: Purpose, Process and Practice
The first supplement called the Psychotherapy Pamphlet was finished in 1975 . Most Course students, whether you are a psychotherapist or not, have found the insights and the continued explanation of the Course’s healing process in this pamphlet incredibly valuable to their understanding of the entire Course.
Taken down by Helen Schucman in the same manner as A Course in Miracles this twenty-three page booklet discusses the Course’s principles of healing and forgiveness in the context of psychotherapy.
Written originally for professional therapists, the booklet nonetheless will be of help to anyone interested in how the Course’s theoretical principle of healing—joining with another through the Holy Spirit—can be applied to everyone, not just those in the field of psychotherapy.
(2) The Song of Prayer:
The second pamphlet, The Song of Prayer, was written in 1977 in response to much of the level confusion (mind vs body) that many Course students and teachers, still have issues with both then and even now. It specifically points out not only what prayer and forgiveness and healing are from a Course point of view… it also spells out what they are not.

(3) The Gifts of God Prose Poem
The Gifts of God Prose Poem contains the last dictated messages to Helen from Jesus. It is included at the end of a collection of poetry by Helen Schucman, also by the same title:
The Gifts of God (click here).
The year was 1978. The Course had already been taken down by Helen Schucman and was published. The two Course pamphlets (Psychotherapy & Song of Prayer) were also already scribed, between 1975 and 1977.
It was a cold, snowy February weekend in New York City… and Ken Wapnick was scheduled to head out of the Big Apple on a train for a couple days, to a Catholic center (about 30 miles north) to do some counseling work. Helen was terrified that Ken would be hurt, or worse, in an impending snowstorm. She had already talked him out of going the previous weekend for the same reason, and Ken dutifully said that this time he had to go. She had herself so worked-up that her conscious fear was totally over-the-top and out of control. Later, by 3am in the morning of that night after he left, she finally decided to talk to Jesus about it.
What then developed over a three month period thru April of ’78… were Jesus messages to help her walk thru, not the distracting conscious fear about Ken’s safety, but the real underlying fear (hers and ours) of simply letting go of separation and being with Jesus. These messages were collectively put together in what today is known as the Gifts of God Prose Poem. The best description of this process, and a great discussion by Ken Wapnick on the contents of this piece, is Ken’s ten CD set/MP3 download (click here):
The poem contains five sections (on 14 pages):
- The Dream of Fear
- The Two Gifts
- The Ending of The Dream
- Our Gift to God
- The Father’s Love
This Prose Poem is a beautifully written synopsis of the entire Course, with all its paragraphs in Shakespearean iambic pentameter. For best understanding, it is recommended and helpful to have some previous study of the Course’s basic metaphysics of healing and forgiveness, prior to reading and applying the poem’s teachings to our lives.
However The Gifts of God Prose Poem is an insightful capstone to the Course itself, and will resonate with all Course students as an incredible addendum that beautifully crowns A Course in Miracles.
