The group has a threefold purpose: Becoming comfortable with the metaphysics of the Course and its two thought systems; learning to decipher which of the two we are choosing; searching and applying the instructions and terms presented in the Course. To achieve this, the group reads and discusses the Course, listens to and discusses Ken Wapnick material, and shares personal experiences with the forgiveness principles of the Course.

In 1990, the Foundation for A Course in Miracles began its official newsletter, The Lighthouse. It evolved into a quarterly periodical announcing classes and publications, and featured articles written by us (Kenneth and Gloria). We have thought for some time now, echoed in the numerous requests of others, to have these articles available as a collection, and thus are pleased to announce this compendium of writings entitled From The Lighthouse. The articles cover a wide range of topics, as we considered both the world of A Course in Miracles as well as the world at large through the lens of the Course’s teachings on forgiveness. When taken together, as they are in this compendium, these writings provide a window into how we at the Foundation have seen A Course in Miracles as a spiritual path, as well as our own development as a center dedicated to preserving and teaching its principles.

The ego has convinced us that our foundation is a solid bedrock of darkness, sin, and guilt, upon which the whole world of form and bodies has been built. And yet despite its seemingly impenetrable nature, rays of light (at our invitation) enter the darkness and seem to appear in the world of form, reminding us of our true foundation in Love.

These reminders are only symbols of what lies beyond, and there is a strong temptation to invest our devotion in the externals, maintaining our focus on the forms instead of seeing them simply as means to remember the true content they reflect. We gradually begin to recognize that the purpose of this misguided focus is to conceal the mind’s chosen content.

Yet when used simply as symbols pointing to the Source, these forms can become our classroom, with the help of our inner Teacher, for learning our way out of the darkness and back to our true Home in the light. With this realization then, “What is your life but gratitude to Him Who loves you with an everlasting love?” (The Gifts of God, p. 126).

Deciding to live in the light of this truth, we then experience only genuine gratitude for the function the specific forms can serve—for as long as they may be available—in helping us remember the Love that we truly are.

A common observation of students as they continue their study and practice of A Course in Miracles is that—much to their surprise—their fear level has increased and peace has become more elusive. Yet it is not surprising that the decision to restore the previously rejected awareness of our true Identity as one with God would produce considerable discomfort. This is because we could begin to recognize some of the defenses we use to keep the truth concealed. The resulting fear and discomfort are addressed by Jesus in the Course and will be among the topics discussed in this class.
Included as well are Jesus’ comforting reassurances that he is with us in our process of withdrawing the promise we made to the ego never to allow union to call us out of separation and therefore we would look at what we swore we would never look at (T-19.IV-D.3:4; 6:1). Thus we learn that our fear is not justified. We have not lost our innocence, as Jesus reminds us, and so we recognize at last that in truth “there is nothing to fear” (W-pI.48). The peace that is our inheritance is now restored to our awareness.

For a number of reasons, we have reduced the one day ACIM workshop (9/16) to a half-a-day on Saturday morning, and are suggesting a $25 donation for this seminar (or whatever you can afford is fine).

This Sep. 16th  half day workshop is an immersion into the basic fundamental themes and process of forgiveness and healing in “A Course in Miracles.”

The seminar is great for beginners and for those fairly new to the Course. It is also very helpful for ongoing Course students desiring a refresher in Course basics. All are welcome.

If you are fairly new, this workshop is highly recommended for those who are considering  taking the four week series in October on the Psychotherapy Pamphlet, and/or the 2018 Six Month Course Immersion.

It seems to be the great preoccupation of the world to find what will give our lives meaning and purpose. And the search may lead down many different paths, among them: mundane achievements, such as money, power and fame; interpersonal relationships, including family and friends; caring roles aimed at helping others and making the world a better place; and spiritual pursuits, such as becoming a student (and teacher) of A Course in Miracles. And yet despite the seeming differences among all of them, from the perspective of the Course, they share one thing in common: they are all meaningless. For all seek to establish meaning and purpose in special relationships, our substitutes for God, through the activity of the body, which nicely serves the ego’s purpose of keeping the Son of God mindless.

This program will explore what the Course asserts are the only two purposes our lives can serve: reinforcing the dream through judgment and specialness, or awakening from it through the miracle and forgiveness, only one of which is meaningful, for it shifts our focus from the body to the mind. And we will examine the subtle ways in which the ego attempts to convince us that meaning and purpose can still be found in the world of dreams, telling us that seeking to find meaning in awakening from the dream is simply not enough to get us through our day.
